If you’re planning to enjoy a pint or two with friends to celebrate Ireland’s patron saint, choose a local microbrewery or ask for a domestic beer on tap.

Locally brewed beer is easier on the environment because it doesn’t have to travel the thousands of miles that an imported beer does. And getting beer on tap instead of in a bottle uses less energy and results in less waste.

If every beer drinker in the U.S. consumed one less bottle of imported beer and instead ordered a pint of local or domestically brewed beer on tap, we’d collectively save 24,000 tons of glass bottle waste.

Did You Know…?

Nearly 650 million gallons of beer are consumed in America per year.There are 389 breweries in the U.S., yet about 26 percent of U.S. adults drink imported beer.On-tap beer’s impact on the environment has been found to be 68 percent lower than beer in the bottle.
